Mornings have easily been my favorite time of day here. The streets are quiet, the beach goers and shop owners haven't begun to arrive, and the wind blows the smell of the ocean through the windows. Having lived most of my life completely landlocked, living near the ocean for an entire month has been wonderful, and just in case I haven't mentioned this before I DON'T WANT TO LEAVE. Ever. But alas, we have to. Sigh.
In an attempt to permanently sear these precious last seven mornings into my memory, I have decided to document some little details so I will never forget this wonderful trip. ÂÂ

On Sunday Andy and I took a drive up the Pacific Coast Highway from Santa Monica, through Malibu, to Ventura. I think I might have seen Britney Spears when we stopped at McDonald's in Malibu to use the bathroom, but I can't be sure. She looked trashy enough, but there were no purse dogs. But the PCH? Most beautiful place I've been in a long time. The beach + mountains + vineyards + cute little places to pull of the road, grab a taco and watch the sunset = Superawesome.ÂÂ
Malibu has such a wonderful laid back vibe. Like a spa exploded on the entire town. You half expect to be handed cucumber water and warm towels everywhere you go. Little mom and pop's precariously line the highway (a little too close to the hwy, if you ask me) and very rich very lucky people sit on the beautiful white curtain clad balconies extending over the cliffs to watch the sun do it's little setting dance atop the waves. And did I mention they have tacos? They do. Lots and lots of tacos.  ÂÂ
Along the way we stumbled upon the dog beach we've been meaning to check out since we got here but just haven't managed to plan a proper visit to. Gus made friends with Kona, the Hawaiian golden retriever and together they chased the birds and that evil water monster that lives in the ocean while Andy and I were stuck talking to Kona's very awkward stinky-cigar-toting owner.  The unfortunate consequence of this little romp was a dog smelling very strongly of seaweed and fishy ocean water. Subsequently our car has now taken on the same lovely smell. ÂÂ
It was a really beautiful afternoon. I don't ever want to leave this place.ÂÂ
P.S. I saw a seal. A real live seal. I couldn't get a picture of him becuase he was busy playing in the waves and he moved to fast for me. But I saw him and he was cute.ÂÂ

I am loving this project photographed by Simon Hogsburg. I am particularly intrigued by the two individuals with cotton taped over their right eye. Do they know each other? Did they just have a simultaneous procedure performed? In any case it seems odd, no?
I'm also a big fan of his Faces of New York project. The interviews are awesome. I wish I had these kinds of guts.ÂÂ
